The Wichita Ear Clinic is dedicated to providing state of the art medical and surgical treatment for diseases of the ear and cranial base. Our physicians, Thomas C. Kryzer, MD and John M. Lasak, MD are fellowship trained otologists, neurotologists, and cranial base surgeons. Our clinic treats all types of hearing loss, vestibular and balance disorders, otologic (ear) infections, tinnitus, facial nerve disorders, acoustic neuromas, and tumors of the ear and cranial base. We take pride in the evaluation and treatment of all causes of hearing loss. Our staff of five audiologists, Jeffrey Moore, Ph.D., Eileen Skillen, M.A., Kimberly Bell, M.A., Leigh Unkel, M.A., and David Page, M.A., are trained to perform all of the diagnostic testing necessary to diagnose hearing loss in both adults and children. Audiologic testing includes pure tone audiometry and speech discrimination testing, play and behavioral audiometry to diagnose childhood hearing loss, otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) and brainstem-evoked audiometry (ABR) to evaluate newborn hearing. The management options for those with hearing loss include medical, surgical, and hearing aid rehabilitation. We additionally perform all the necessary audiologic testing to determine cochlear implant candidacy. Our neurotologists specialize in both pediatric and adult cochlear implantation, and implant mapping and programming is accomplished on site at the Wichita Ear Clinic. For further information please see our section on cochlear implantation. Our physicians are skilled in performing stapedectomy and ossicular reconstruction to correct hearing loss related to problems with the ossicles (hearing bones). Our surgeons also perform reconstructive surgery (atresia repair) for children and adults with congenital under-development of the ear and hearing structures. Additionally, the management of adults and children with cholesteatoma, chronic otitis media (chronic ear infections), and eardrum perforations are among the most common procedures performed by our surgeons. We evaluate all forms of dizziness at the Wichita Ear Clinic. State of the art vestibular and balance testing allows us to differentiate between inner ear and central causes of dizziness and imbalance. Our audiology staff has expertise in performing electronystagmography (ENG), platform posturography (Equitest), Dix-Hallpike testing, and electrocochleography (ECOG) to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of inner ear vestibular and balance problems. Treatment is individualized and may include medication, vestibular rehabilitation, or surgery. Our on site vestibular rehabilitation program can successfully treat many disorders of the inner ear balance system including the canalith-repositioning maneuver (Epley maneuver) for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). We also provided state of the art treatment for Meniere's disease including medical therapy, surgery, and intratympanic gentamycin perfusion. For more information, please see our section on Meniere's disease. Tinnitus can be evaluated and diagnosed at the Wichita Ear Clinic, and we provide a tinnitus support group that meets monthly. This group discusses treatment therapies that include tinnitus masking and retraining. Tinnitus is defined as a noise (ringing, buzzing, etc.) in one or both ears and is most often associated with problems of the auditory (hearing) or vestibular (balance) system. For more information about tinnitus, please refer to our tinnitus section. |
